Destination guide
Siem Reap sits beside the Angkor temple complex, so busy town streets lie only a short ride from ancient stone towers. Inside Angkor, stone paths lead past carved walls and steep steps into quiet courtyards filled with shade from tall trees. Midday heat can be strong, so long walks among the stones often feel slow and heavy. Days here often shift between long temple visits and slow walks through town, creating a calm, steady rhythm. Around the old market area, small lanes hold hostels, cheap eateries, and stalls selling simple temple souvenirs. Boat trips from Siem Reap on Tonlé Sap Lake pass floating villages and stilt houses, while travelers quietly watch local life from the water.

Plan 3 to 5 nights, enough for Angkor, town time, and maybe Tonlé Sap without dragging it out.
Skip it if temples are not your thing, tourist-heavy towns annoy you, or April heat kills sightseeing. Go anyway if Khmer history interests you.
