Destination guide
In the Uzbek part of the Aral Sea, most visits center on the old fishing town of Moynaq. Here a small museum and a line of rusting ships show how a huge lake slowly turned into desert. Stranded hulls sit on dry sand, close enough that paint and empty decks are easy to see. Around the town, old signboards still point “to the beach”, a simple joke from the lake’s slow disappearance. The town is quiet, and visits turn into slow walks through simple streets and across the wide salt flats. Summer heat and salty dust can be harsh, and staying outside for long periods becomes difficult. At the edge of Moynaq, abandoned fishing boats rest on sand under the bright desert sun.

Stay 1 night if coming for Moynaq, 2 nights only if adding a 4x4 run toward the current shoreline.
Skip it if you want beaches, boats, comfort, or easy social time, also in peak summer heat or deep winter road-trip weather.
