Your experience depends a lot on where you stay. Lagoa da Conceição is the social hub, with surfers, backpackers, bars, cafés, and enough nightlife to stay busy even in quieter months. Campeche feels more spread out and more local. It is good for beach routines and remote work. It is less good if you want to do everything on foot. Barra da Lagoa is the calmer small-town choice. In general, Floripa feels healthy, active, and young, but it still has a social side without feeling like a nonstop party place.

Do not choose Floripa if you want one small city where everything is easy to walk to, cheap, and social right away. This place is spread out, so transport affects the trip more than many people expect, and buses can test your patience fast. Winter can also disappoint people who imagine hot Brazil every day, because the wind, cold water, and gray skies are real. It is also not one of the cheapest places in Brazil. Come for beaches, surf, hikes, and a relaxed routine, not for city sightseeing or easy backpacker chaos.

FLN is the usual way to arrive, and most international trips need a connection. From Hercílio Luz Airport, Consórcio Fênix bus 431 goes to TICEN. Then 320 or 330 goes to Lagoa da Conceição, and southbound connections go to Campeche. Expect about R$7.70 for each municipal bus if you do not have a transit card. Uber is much easier. It usually costs about R$35-70 to Lagoa or Campeche, and takes 30-60 minutes depending on traffic. The frustrating part is the bus system with many transfers, not the booking.

For normal beach weather, December to March is the clear season. It is hot, lively, and good for swimming, but January is the difficult month. Prices go up, traffic gets bad, and the whole island moves more slowly between Christmas and Carnival. April is a very good time, still warm with fewer crowds. June to August is quieter and often drier, but winter here can feel cold, gray, and windy, with cold ocean water. September to November is also good if you want warmer weather before peak-season crowds. Access to Ilha do Campeche depends on the weather all year.

People mostly pay by card here. Banco24Horas ATMs are the safest backup if you need cash. Keep a little money for kiosks and buses. Still, this beach town does not use much cash. Internet is usually reliable in Lagoa and Campeche. So working online is easy there. The main tech problem is mobile SIM activation. CPF rules can stop foreigners, so an eSIM saves trouble. Also check the voltage before you plug things in. It is often 220V. Ask if your place has a water tank too. Outages still happen in east and south island neighborhoods.

Floripa feels safer than Rio or São Paulo, but relaxed does not mean you can stop being careful. Small theft is the main problem, especially on beaches, near the lagoon bars, and from parked cars or scooters. Barra da Lagoa, Campeche, and Lagoa da Conceição usually feel comfortable to stay in. Centro feels less pleasant late at night, with more street problems than the beach areas. Empty beach paths and sand tracks need extra care after dark. If you go out late, use Uber, keep your phone out of sight, and do not expect English in a stressful situation.
