Destination guide
Between the dragon islands of Komodo and a line of volcanoes, Flores links a harbor town with cool highland villages. From Labuan Bajo, day boats cross bright water to Komodo National Park for reef snorkelling, island walks, and views of huge lizards. The long winding road across Flores keeps travel slow. Near Bajawa, traditional Ngada villages keep stone altars, high thatched houses, and wide shared yards between them on open grassy hills. Hot springs and short forest walks around Bajawa give a quiet break from long hours in buses and cars. Farther east, Mount Kelimutu holds three crater lakes with different colours, all sitting close together inside one steep volcanic bowl.

Think long road-trip energy, busy Labuan Bajo first, then quiet inland towns with volcano mornings, village stops, cool evenings, and very little party scene.
Give Flores 5 to 10 nights, enough for Komodo, Bajawa, Kelimutu, and the island's slow road days.
Skip Flores for short trips, nightly partying, easy transport, or strong Wi-Fi. Some beginner divers may want calmer water before Komodo currents.
