Destination guide
From the crowded pier, the town of Labuan Bajo looks out to the Komodo islands and bright blue water. Boats fill the harbor and head to Komodo National Park to see dragons, snorkel coral reefs, and dive among sea life. Above the water, narrow streets climb the hill past simple guesthouses, cafes, and busy dive shops. Out at nearby sites such as Manta Point, manta rays sometimes circle above the reef in current. From hill viewpoints, the bay below shows islands and lines of boats. Near the harbor, simple bars and food stalls stand beside the road. At the fish market by the harbor, travelers sit at plastic tables while fish sizzle on metal grills beside the water.

Laid-back and social for a night or two, but a little rough, with everyone comparing boat plans, dive options, and sunset spots.
Two to three nights is enough, one day for the sea trip, one for diving or sunset views, plus a weather buffer.
Skip it for a cheap beach week, culture-heavy stop, or big nights out. Also skip in rough weather if boats, currents, or seasickness sound bad.
