Destination guide
Yak bells ring along narrow trails beside a mountain river as Tamang herders move between stone-walled fields and high pasture. Langtang Valley offers multi-day trekking from dense rhododendron forest up into an open alpine basin below snowy Langtang Lirung. Stone Tamang villages sit close to the path, with low houses, small Buddhist shrines, and mani walls lined with carved prayer stones. Landslide scars from the 2015 earthquake remain above the former Langtang village and make some valley slopes look raw and broken. Near the upper meadows, a small yak-cheese dairy stands beside the trail, where big cheese wheels dry and spread a rich smell. Reaching nearby Kyanjin Ri from Kyanjin Gompa means standing by bright prayer flags that snap above close, creaking glacier ice.

Plan 5 to 7 nights, enough for the valley walk and safe acclimatization.
Skip if cold basic rooms, long walking days, weak internet, and altitude sound annoying, or if a full day each way on rough roads hurts.
