Destination guide
In Lumbini, a quiet sacred garden surrounds the Mayadevi Temple. This simple shrine marks the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, later known as the Buddha. Shaded paths run between old trees, small ponds, and strings of prayer flags. Nearby, a wide monastic zone has temples built by Buddhist countries, including Thailand, Japan, and Germany. You can use a simple bicycle to ride between monasteries along flat roads. Distances between the main areas are long, which makes walking between them slow in the heat. The quiet streets and spread-out temples give visits here a slow rhythm, with time to sit and observe. Under the large Bodhi tree beside the birth marker, you sit quietly among prayer flags and a still pond.

One to two nights suits most people, three only if the spiritual side or slow pace really lands.
Skip it if quiet temples and Buddhist history are not your thing, or if Nepal time is short and mountains, Kathmandu, or Chitwan sound stronger.
