Destination guide
Busy streets full of tricycles sit beside a calm bay and steep limestone cliffs. El Nido is where many small boats leave each morning for rocky islands with sand beaches and coral gardens. On these island-hopping trips, you swim in warm clear water and often look down at fish moving over living coral. The town itself is small, with hostels and simple food stalls packed along only a few sandy streets near the water. Strong waves sometimes stop boat trips, so routes can change at the last moment. Near town, a zipline runs from a hill to an island, and you slide above the sea with wind on your face.

Plan 4 to 6 nights, enough for boat trips, one land day, and some backup time if seas turn rough.
Skip it if crowds, rough van rides, weak internet, or weather delays will annoy you, especially if you only want a lazy town beach.
