Destination guide
In Galle Fort, you walk along thick stone walls high above the cricket stadium and streets. The old Dutch and British fort walls guard the point in a ring, facing open ocean on three sides. Inside this ring, narrow lanes hold low colonial houses, small cafés, and little shops painted in peeling colors. The slow traffic and shaded porches keep the pace gentle, so wandering here often turns into long, lazy walks. Near Galle, beaches like Unawatuna sit close by, with hills behind the sand and water good for swimming. On calmer days, simple snorkel gear from beach stalls makes floating over coral and watching small, bright fish easy. At Flag Rock Bastion, you lean on the stone wall and watch jumpers drop into white surf far below.

One to three nights is enough, one for the Fort, longer if adding Unawatuna beach time.
Skip it for cheap nightlife, rough-around-the-edges beach vibes, or wet-season swims. In very short trips, it can work better as a pass-through.
