Destination guide
In Hiriketiya on Sri Lanka's south coast, a small palm-fringed bay fills each day with steady surf. Short waves break near the sand for learners, while a stronger wave breaks near the rocky point for experienced surfers. Several surf schools line the shore and run classes, so beginners quickly share the water with local longboard surfers. In peak season the bay can feel crowded, and boards weave around each other where the waves first rise. Simple cafés, smoothie bars, and a few tiny shops stand just behind the beach. Several small studios run yoga classes on shaded decks that look down over the bay. From the rocky headland path, the curved bay appears below, and surfers, swimmers, and fishing boats share the same clear water.

2 to 4 nights works well, enough for surf sessions, a yoga class, beach time, and slow afternoons.
Skip it for empty beaches, strong work setup, or lots beyond surfing and hanging out. Peak season gets busy, and the town feels polished.
