Kandy often echoes with drum beats from the Temple of the Tooth beside its quiet lake. Inside this temple area, you move barefoot past white walls, incense smoke, and lines of locals bringing flowers. At puja time, doors open briefly to the sacred tooth shrine while drums and horns grow louder. Just outside, Kandy Lake offers a flat loop for slow walks, cheeky monkeys in the trees, and city noise fading away. The center is busy but small, with an indoor market where hill-country tea, fruit, and spices fill the stalls. For a quiet afternoon, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are a place to wander under tall palms and watch bright parrots cross green lawns.

A busy hill city with temple traffic, market energy, and low-key traveler chat, good for a short culture stop, weak for parties or long hangs.
1 to 2 nights is enough for the temple, lake walk, market, and maybe Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.
Skip it for beaches, nightlife, or hostel buzz, and also if traffic, noise, steep streets, and wet months will wear you down fast.
