Destination guide
Motorbikes follow the square moat and brick gates of Chiang Mai, an old city where temples, cafés, and hostels sit close together. Inside the walls, quiet lanes lead you past monks, small gardens, and wats with gold stupas and soft bells. Guesthouses and hostels sit near cafés and massage shops, so many days mix temple visits with relaxed breaks in town. Night markets spread along the streets with clothes, crafts, and street food, and stalls hang playful lights above their hot pans. From the city, trips reach waterfalls, forest temples, and elephant sanctuaries that focus on watching and feeding, not riding. After a ride in a red songthaew, you ring bells beside Wat Phra That Doi Suthep’s golden chedi and look over Chiang Mai.

Plan 3 to 5 nights, enough for temples, markets, café time, and one or two mountain day trips.
Skip if you want beaches, strong nightlife, or easy walking, and avoid February to April if smoke or heat hits hard.
