Destination guide
In Krabi, limestone cliffs rise behind the sand while other cliffs rise from the green Andaman Sea. Long-tail boats move between these rocks to small beaches and islands, passing caves, tiny shrines, and hanging jungle. Some beaches sit behind tall rock and have no road, so boats connect them with nearby towns. Quiet mangrove bays hide narrow channels where kayaks slide under low roots and past sea caves that echo with each paddle stroke. Offshore islands have clear water where masks go on, faces go down, and bright fish circle close. Because many sights sit close together along the coast, boat trips stay short and the pace usually stays slow. On Railay’s high walls, climbers grip rough orange rock above the sea, sometimes hanging in strange shapes against the sky.

Pick your base carefully, Ao Nang is busy and social, Railay is quiet and scenic, Krabi Town feels local and much less beachy.
Plan 3 to 5 nights, enough for one base, a couple boat days, and time for Railay, mangroves, or Tiger Cave Temple.
Skip it if busy beach towns get old fast, or if only 2 to 3 days are free, because boats, weather, and base changes waste time.
