Busy, social, and a bit chaotic near Tonsai, then calmer by Long Beach, where the same pretty water finally comes with some breathing room.

Destination guide
Between steep limestone cliffs and a busy pier, Koh Phi Phi is a small car-free island with only walking paths. Along the narrow paths, bars and dive schools sit close together near the beach. When you walk here with a backpack, carts and crowds pass near and the paths are full of people. Off the main shore it is easy to swim, snorkel, and try beginner diving. A steep path leads to a viewpoint where you see two bays and a sandy strip between them. At night, beach bars hold fire shows and parties, and stalls mix drinks in plastic buckets. Longtail boats carry people out to Maya Bay, where turquoise water meets sand under tall cliffs.

At a glance
Busy, social, and a bit chaotic near Tonsai, then calmer by Long Beach, where the same pretty water finally comes with some breathing room.
2 to 3 nights is enough for a boat trip, beach time, and the viewpoint, without giving too much time to the transfers.
Skip it if noise, crowds, and tourist polish wear you down, or if you only have one night and want a calmer island.
